Dimensions of Capacity

Sara Vatore

In this episode of Multidimensional Transmissions, I’m welcoming you back after our summer pause with a conversation about capacity, commitment, adaptability, and what it means to stay with ourselves when life, or something we deeply care about, asks more of us than we expected.

As we move through the transition from summer into fall, I’ve been reflecting on the ways these threshold seasons can stretch us. This feels especially alive for me as I reach the end of a nearly 20-month journey of creating the new website for Competitive Advantage, the peak performance consulting and coaching business I purchased from my father as he moved into retirement. What was originally expected to be a four-to-six-month project became its own experience in commitment, sacrifice, adaptability, and continuing to come back even when the process felt frustrating, overwhelming or simply hard.

Join me as I explore the tension between “ease culture” and “hustle culture” and the space that exists somewhere between them. Sometimes the things we want require a tremendous amount from us. We can work hard, stretch our capacity and stay committed to something that matters while also learning to recognize our edges, care for ourselves, ask for support and recover along the way.

We’ll also examine what can happen when we reach the edges of our current capacity. Procrastination, avoidance, perfectionism, overwhelm, irritability, shutdown, or questioning everything can offer valuable information about what’s happening underneath the surface. Getting curious about these patterns can help us better understand what we need, where we have room to stretch, and how we can continue to come back to ourselves and what matters.

Capacity includes our ability to adapt, change the plan, respond to what’s actually happening, and find another way through. It also includes our ability to take in what we’ve accomplished along the way, which is something I was recently reminded that I’m not always very good at doing!

Inside this episode, we explore:

  • Navigating the transitional energy between summer and fall

  • Staying connected to ourselves when life asks more of us

  • Finding space between ease culture and hustle culture

  • The difference between chronically overriding ourselves and intentionally stretching our capacity

  • What procrastination, avoidance, perfectionism, overwhelm, irritability, and shutdown might be communicating

  • Meeting our edges with curiosity

  • Adaptability as an essential part of capacity

  • Continuing to come back to ourselves and what matters during challenging seasons

  • Taking in our accomplishments and celebrating what we’ve already done

Wherever this season finds you, I hope this conversation offers some space to get curious about your own edges, your capacity, and what you might need as you move through whatever is asking something of you right now.

If this episode resonates with you, please share it with someone in your world who might need it too. And as always, thank you for listening and being here.
