slowing down in the fullness

Sara Vatore

As we are clearly in the fall transition into the upcoming school year, I am reminded of the amount of coordination and organization that is required to parent.

Well, just generally adulting for ourselves is a full time job anyway.

But to be responsible for a household and another person (or more) and their schedule/s is quite a huge load.

At times of transition, even more so.

As a former high school guidance counselor I have a bit of PTSD with “Back to School”. A gathering of energy and expectation to “get all the things”, making sure we have/they have what we need, organizing the schedules and the new sports/activities that are on the horizon, the shift in timing and rhythm, the earlier breakfasts, the packed lunches and dinner prep.

For us adults alone it is a lot to be with. Add a child in with their own moods/emotions/opinions/feelings about it all and see how it goes.

We don’t talk about it as parents that much.

There is a lot to navigate within ourselves- our own feelings/triggers/experiences, all while also holding space for our kids.

Honestly, it can be SUPER OVERWHELMING on a good day.

Add that to the regular ups and downs of humaning, and it can get a wee bit hairy.

The clearer our brains are to organize, schedule, take breaks, have patience, look at the big picture, have ideas for meals, etc, the more easeful we can navigate the increased demands.

We are not doing anyone any good by being stressed out, brain foggy and at max capacity.

SO…

In service to your highest functioning:

This is your invitation to start to SLOW DOWN IN THE FULLNESS.

Slow your steps down, your breathing, your movements.

Pause more.

In between emails. In between activities. In the bathroom. Before you speak. Everytime you walk through a doorway.

It will still all get done. It always gets done.

Invite in an energy of SLOW and more presence will emerge.

If you are feeling some overwhelm as we move into the fall season, my good friend and colleague Andrea Bordenca and I are curating a supportive group space for us parents to gather, connect and learn together about building emotional resilience. Our 6 week virtual group program starts at the end of September.

And if you are desiring some support in shifting patterns that are not serving you anymore and are looking for some 1-1 support, please reach out. 1-1 virtual Somatic Coaching may be a good fit for you right now.

Step into 6 months of 1-1 support to prioritizing your body and your needs, get to the root of your stuckness,  and make lasting change.

Click the link below for more details or set up a Connection Call and we can discuss if working together would be a good fit.
