The Science of Spaciousness: Why Your Best Ideas Need Room to Breathe

Sara Vatore

As humans running businesses (or families), we are constantly holding—ideas, responsibilities, clients (and/or children), strategies, planning, execution. The mind is often clicked “on”,  engaged, mapping out next steps, problem-solving, keeping things moving.

But here’s the thing: your best ideas, your clearest insights, your most aligned decisions? They don’t emerge from a mind that is constantly working.

They arrive in the space between.

Research in neuroscience shows that the Default Mode Network (DMN), the part of the brain responsible for creativity, problem-solving, and deeper insights, only activates when we are at rest. When we are not actively “trying” to solve something, but instead allowing spaciousness.

Have you ever noticed that your best ideas don’t come when you’re forcing them?

That clarity often arrives when you step away: while driving, showering, or walking outside?

That the moments when you stop pushing are the very moments when something new and brilliant emerges?

This isn’t a coincidence. This is how your nervous system and brain are designed to work.

Constant busyness keeps the brain in task mode, hyper-focused, productive, but often rigid. It prioritizes efficiency over innovation.

When we create space, when we pause, rest, slow down, the brain shifts gears. It connects ideas in new ways. It accesses information stored beyond immediate consciousness. It allows something deeper to emerge.

This is why spaciousness is not a luxury, it’s a requirement for business evolution.

When you create intentional space, you stop forcing and start receiving. The next aligned step, the strategy that actually works, the offer that feels right—they come not from over-efforting but from allowing.

This is why I created my weekend retreat for women in business: The Spacious CEO

This is a supported 1-1 weekend dedicated to stepping away from the grind and into recalibration. Not to plan. Not to overthink. But to allow clarity to reveal itself naturally.

A weekend of SPACE, Somatic Support and Co-Created Intention to serve you and your business the just-right medicine.

Because when you give yourself spaciousness, your next steps don’t have to be forced. They will be revealed.

Reach out if you feel the pull to step away and return with more clarity, energy, and alignment than ever before. Send me an email sara@saravatore.com
